30th Anniversary Carnival

Open Window School families, faculty, staff and alumni gathered on Cougar Mountain last Saturday for a carnival to celebrate 30 years of challenging, engaging and nurturing students.

The extravaganza included vintage carnival games: KA-PLUNK, Frog Hop and a good ol' fashioned Coke Bottle Ring Toss. Students were wowed by balloon twisting, photo booths, tattoos and a roving magician. Music Teacher Ms. Arends led a group of amazing vocalists and Mr. Hollinger performed with his bluegrass band, the Grasscats. In between performances, alumni Jack Mandelkorn deejayed music including some of his own pieces. Portraits of teachers created by fourth grade students in Ms. Palladina's art class hung throughout the gym, while second graders contributed an illustrated timeline of Open Window School. In the background, a photo slideshow of students from 1985-2015 played. What is a carnival without snowcones, cotton candy and iced cookies (donated by Schwartz Brothers)? Teachers volunteered to don rain gear and have students line up to soak them in the Hydroblaster booth. Parent and middle school volunteers ran all booths. And once revelers were ready for a break, there were bunnies to sit quietly and pet.

Our Open Window community, past and present, would like to thank the incredible carnival organizers: Tiffany Bernal, Thao Blanchard, Melanie Crowson, Angie Hurlock, Mona Khanuja and Nancy Woo, for making this 30 year celebration unforgettable!
