Open Window School Names Head of School Successor

Open Window School has selected Elaine Christensen to succeed Jeff Stroebel as its new Head of School following Stroebel’s retirement at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Christensen is currently the Middle School Director and Director of Professional Development at Lakeside School in Seattle.

Board of Trustees President Cydnie Horwat announced the appointment of Elaine Christensen on June 19.

“The Board selected Elaine from a field of strong candidates because of the depth of her experience in independent schools and her track record of success as a school leader. She is a strategic thinker with a passion for professional development and a student-centered educator who will know, value, and understand our children.”

“Elaine will be taking over a school with an exceptional student body, best in class faculty and staff, a vibrant parent community, strong enrollment, and a solid financial footing. The Board would like to thank Jeff Stroebel for strengthening our program and enhancing our reputation as a leading independent school.”

Christensen holds a M.Ed. in Independent School Leadership from Columbia University. She earned a M.A. in English from Middlebury College and a B.A. in English from Northwestern University. She has held various roles of increasing responsibility in both teaching and administration at Lakeside since 1992 and has 35 years of independent school experience.

Christensen will assume her responsibilities at Open Window after the conclusion of the upcoming school year, succeeding Stroebel who has led the school since 2012. She will be Open Window’s eighth Head of School since its founding in 1983.
