How to Apply

Our admissions team is here to help you find the best educational fit for your child. We can talk with you about gifted education, independent schools, tuition assistance, our school culture, curriculum, and the admissions process. Below you will find information about the application process, but our team is always here to help you; simply email us at admissions@ows.org.

List of 8 items.

  • Find out More

Schedule time to learn more about our school. Create an account through Ravenna, and choose Open Window School to "explore". This will allow you to register for a tour that works for your schedule. If you cannot find a tour that works for you, please continue to check back as new tours will be opened throughout the fall and winter or reach out to us at admissions@ows.org.
  • Schedule your child's IQ exam

Open Window requires an IQ test for admission. The IQ examination must be given by a licensed psychologist. Please read our required testing page for more information about testing. Once you complete the exam, IQ results should be submitted directly to Open Window via postal mail or email, or you can request the psychologist send it to us. Test results are valid for two years.

IQ test results are required in order to attend our visit days in January; therefore, we suggest scheduling your exam as soon as possible.

If the cost of an IQ test is a barrier for your family, financial support is available. Please contact admissions@ows.org to learn more.
  • Application and fee

Access your Ravenna account to submit your child's application and application fee ($65).

If the application fee is a hardship for your family, please use the waiver code: PSIS2023
  • Complete your parent questionnaire

Complete your parent questionnaire on Ravenna.
  • Conversation with Admissions Office

We value the opportunity to get to know your child and your family better, and have time slots available for parents/guardians who have additional questions that are specific to their child(ren) as well as a chance to answer any questions that you have about our program and our community. This is not a required portion of the application. You must have attended either a tour or information session prior to this conversation.

Translators are available upon request. Contact the Admissions Office to arrange.
  • Teacher evaluation

Delegate your child’s current teacher to fill out a teacher evaluation through Ravenna. We suggest completing this step as soon as possible to allow your child’s teacher plenty of time to complete the evaluation.
  • Applicant visit

Applicant visits to Open Window are our chance to get to know your child and for them to experience our program in person.

For lower school applicants (K-4), visits happen on a Saturday in late January or early February. For middle school applicants (5-8), visits will happen during the school day in the late fall or early winter. The admissions office will reach out with your assigned date once your application is complete.
  • Print, sign and request records

Print and sign a records request form through Ravenna and turn into your child’s current school. We ask for a report card from the current school year, as well as records from the previous two years. Open Window requires standardized achievement test results (ITBS, ERB, MSP, etc). If your child has not had standardized achievement testing administered through their current school, please contact the Admissions Office.
